2020 Virtual Auditions Updates

Due to the current limitations on live performance, MONC decided to go to a virtual audition set up this year. Unfortunately, due to copyright and network capability, we are unable to show the virtual auditions to our membership. However, we hope to provide our donor's with a highlight reel following the virtual event.
Our audition date is December 19, 2020 starting at 11:00 CST. The judges for 2020 are:
Ken Benson:  https://www.kenbensonartists.com/
Alan Held: http://www.alanheld.com/
Gina Lapinski: https://www.operabase.com/artists/gina-lapinski-30224/en

You can watch the award announcements on MONC's Facebook page or YouTube channel.

From the Metropolitan Opera in New York, September 23, 2020:
Our Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions season is underway and I wanted to give an update on our competition this year. As you may have heard the Met season has been cancelled, but we are forging ahead with our auditions thanks to the steadfast support of donors and volunteers like you.
During these unprecedented times, we know that singers need access to prize money, opportunities and feedback now more than ever. And that’s exactly what our competition has to offer.
As we reimagined the auditions this season, it has been our priority to run the competition responsibly in a safe and equitable way under the current circumstances. In planning all of the auditions this season, please know that our values are this:
  • We will not put anyone’s health or safety at risk to participate in the auditions.
  • We will be as transparent about our process as possible.
  • We will uphold high artistic and technological standards in producing the auditions, but we do not expect singers to have access to the highest level of technology. We’ve added a “singer resources” section on our website to help with their own video setup.
Opera has survived and thrived despite many challenges over its long history. The talented, creative, resilient singers we reach with the Auditions are one of our bright paths forward. Thank you for your continued support of opera and singers through MONC.
